The Blarney Stone is said to have been put in it's place
during the castle's construction by a man who predicted that
none would ever touch it again. However, the Lord of Blarney
during the reign of Elizabeth I, Cormac MacDermont
MacCarthy, while travelling to plead for his lands with the
Queen was told by an old woman that if he could kiss the
stone he would have a fluency of speech. He succeeded in
kissing the stone and subsequently never had to renounce his
lands. Since, it is believed that whoever kisses the stone
shall have the gift of eloquence.

The Giant's Causeway in Co. Antrim is one of Ireland's most
interesting sights.
Once thought to be the construction of the legendary Irish giant, Finn Mac Cool, this volcanic columnar formation of some 60 million years still inspires awe in the thousands of visitors who travel every year to see it. |
